Foundation Scripture: Matthew 6:9,10

Sunday 1st December 2013

As we begin our 7 days of glory tonight, and begin to round up this year, I’m sharing this message with you in order to prepare you for what God wants to do in your life. From our foundation scripture, we can surmise that God wants to unlock His glory in our lives, hence the reason why Jesus taught his disciples to pray ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven’ (Matthew 6:10). God’s glory can be unlocked bi-dimensionally; corporately and individually. It has already been declared that the ‘glory of the latter house shall be greater than the former’ as Pastor Michael shared ‘The Glory of the Latter House’ series with us.

God’s glory is available to all, but the responsibility of connecting with this glory now rests with each one of us. I’m sure you are aware that it is possible to still be in poverty in the midst of abundance, if a person is not connected with the right source. Let me share a few examples with you from scriptures: Elisha declared a prophetic word that things were about to change, but the king’s adviser thought otherwise. Eventually, God’s word came to pass, but the adviser did not enjoy the blessing because he was not tuned in. (2 Kings 7:1-2, 17-18). Another example is the story of the woman with the issue of blood, who received her healing because she believed that she could be healed by Jesus – she tuned into the glory (Mark 5:25-34). As we begin our nights of prayers this evening, ensure that you are tuned in to the frequency of heaven.

An illustration to help you understand this concept better is the use of a radio or television transmission. As I am writing these words, there are athletes who are playing football, chefs cooking, or politicians engaging in a political debate – on a certain frequency. To experience the glory of what they are doing, we need to get the right equipment and tune it into the right frequency; Tuning simply means adjusting the frequency of the receiver (radio or television) to that of the transmitter. Your prayer as we begin these sessions of prayer should be ‘Lord, may my will be conformed to yours’ as taught by Jesus in the Lord’s prayer.

Have you ever analysed the biblical story of Joseph in the book of Genesis? Those moments that circumstances turned against him: when he was sold into slavery, thrown into prison or forgotten by the butler. In isolation, each of those days could be defined as ‘bad days’. But in context and in retrospect, those days turned out to be ‘good days’ as they were moments being used by God to catapult him to a position of prominence in the palace. Let me encourage you as well, that God has not forgotten you. It may seem that the days are turning into months and years, but be encouraged: God is still in control and He is working all things out for your good. Just tune in and stay connected to His glory.

So how can we tune into glory? John 3:3-8 gives us an insight on what to do. We can summarise the passage this way: when I’m tuned into glory, that means I am in sync with what God is doing and where He is going. It is a frequency that is way above our five natural senses – the frequency of the Spirit realm. Romans 8:14 puts it this way: ‘For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God’. Eagles are known to live on mountains –they would normally observe the direction of the wind to ensure that it is favourable to the direction of their desired destination before making a move. Conversely, our lives should always be in sync with God’s spirit in order to enjoy the blessings that He has already provided for us. Can I encourage you to ask God to show you exactly what He is doing, so that you can tune into it.

Let me share three reasons why it is important that we are tuned into God’s glory:

(i) Strength to manage change: As our world advances rapidly, it is inevitable that we will experience changes every often.  Traditionally, the month of December is the most transitional month of the year – in the society, in the community, in our church, in our lives. You need strength in order to transition successfully from one change to the other.

(ii) Safely when we are vulnerable: Many of us are in transition – we’ve left where we used to be but we are not where we are going yet – this is the time when we are most vulnerable – for every highly valued citizen, especially a public figure, the transitional period from one point to the other during a time of unrest in a nation is the most vulnerable point. Conversely, we are not unaware of the attacks of the evil one against us. We have been assured by God, that His glory will be our rear-guard all the time.

(iii) Confidence to go ahead: Have you noticed that in general, when travelling especially by road to a location you’ve never been before, it takes you more time to arrive there that when you are returning home. It is simply because you have a little more confidence driving back, because you know how to navigate back home. When connected with God, even though you’ve never been in the future, you can be rest assured that God has already been in your future and all will be well. So you can sing the popular song ‘Because He lives, I can face tomorrow’. Hence, the reason why we need to enhance our sync technology.

What does it mean to be tuned into God’s glory?

(a) The source must be secure: Firstly, we need to know what our source is. Remember that there are various transmitters in our world today. Little wonder, Jesus says in John 10:27: ‘My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me’. Before then, he had said:  'The voice of the stranger they will not follow' (Verse 5). God has already secured the future he has for you (Jeremiah 29:11). Be aware that the enemy has alternative plans for you. Your responsibility is to secure your source in God, and connect your frequency to His signal.

(b) Your connection must be constant: Have you ever wondered why Jesus spent so much time praying? He was ensuring that his connection with his father, his source remained connected; the reason why Jesus said ‘I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does' (John 5:19 NLT). Conversely, as Christians we need to ensure that we are hearing from God constantly, as He often reveals the future to us in stages. Remember the story of Elijah at the brook Cherith; God instructed him to leave and head to live with the widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:8-9).

(c)  Be a yielded vessel to God: Romans 12:2 reads: ‘And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God’. It is useless if God gives us an instruction of what we need to do, and we do not proceed to obey it. When God gives you an instruction, act on it immediately. The more you obey Him, the more He reveals to you.

The glory of God can be defined as the manifestation of the ‘intangibles’ of God that becomes tangible in the life of a believer. In other words, it could be defined as the expression of the revelation of God incarnate; personified. John 1:1, 14 puts it this way: 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.'

Remember the story of Hannah? As soon as she connected with the desire of God for a prophet in Israel, she conceived and bore Samuel. What would God want to do in your life that you need to connect with? Remember the words of Rev.  Celia in her recent messages: God allows in His wisdom what He could have done in His power.  God has promised in His word; He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20 NIV).

In conclusion, as we proceed in this week and the remaining days of this year, tune in to the frequency of Heaven. Remember that He is your source; your transmitter. So, keep constant communication with Him, and be yielded to His spirit. In not many days from now, I am looking forward to the revelation of His glory upon your life.
