The Unlimited God

Foundation Scripture: Isaiah 54:1-8
Sunday 5th January 2014
I begin a new series today titled ‘Enlarging the Boundary of my territory’. Let me start these series by announcing that we have entered a season of enlargement and overflowing abundance. Our foundation scripture reads: Sing, barren woman, who has never had a baby. Fill the air with song, you who've never experienced childbirth! You're ending up with far more children than all those childbearing women." God says so! Clear lots of ground for your tents! Make your tents large. Spread out! Think big! Use plenty of rope, drive the tent pegs deep. You're going to need lots of elbow room for your growing family. You're going to take over whole nations; you're going to resettle abandoned cities. Don't be afraid — you're not going to be embarrassed. Don't hold back — you're not going to come up short. You'll forget all about the humiliations of your youth, and the indignities of being a widow will fade from memory (Isaiah 54:1-4 MSG).
The word ‘Enlarge’ connotes a command. Also note that expanding to the right or left is not limited to a particular circumference. God has given you a blank canvas, and it is now up to you to determine how far you would like to extend your enlargement. In other words, there is no limit to how far you can go this year. As this is God’s proclamation over us, it is imperative that you are positioned to listen and to receive the fulfilment of this declaration.
Again, let me reiterate that this is your season of breakthrough on every side. God is calling you out beyond where you’ve been before. I may not be privy to what you have experienced in the past, joy or pain, victory or defeat, yet God has more in store for you. I declare that in this year, you will experience uncommon victories, breakthroughs, promotions, blessings, favours, advancement, restoration, joy, peace, health and prosperity in Jesus name.
This is your year of overflowing abundance and of taking over territories, so you cannot afford to think beneath your capabilities or to short-change yourself. Instead, this is the year to believe God for all that He wants to do in your life. This is your year to laugh, for everything stolen will be restored; it is time to dance and to sing a new song.
The Hebrew word for enlarge is ‘rachab’. It is the root word from which the words ‘rehob’, ‘rehoboth’ comes from. The word means ‘to grow large’ – in influence and prosperity, widened, to go beyond, to make more room, to increase capacity, to break out, to breakthrough, expand, go further, occupy new territories, no limits, no boundaries, thinking big, broadened and robust. A key point of our foundation scripture is found in verse 2: ‘Do not hold back’ – don’t limit yourself based on your experience or background. It’s now your time to expect things to fall into place.
You must now be intentional in expecting those things that God has promised you. Ensure that you do not pre-program your mind like that of the widow woman in 2 Kings 4 who gathered just a few jars of oil. She had the opportunity, but did not have the capacity for more oil.
The word ‘For’ in verse 3 is the Hebrew word ‘Kiy’ which means ‘surely’ or ‘certainly’. In other words, it means, definitely you are going to expand and experience abundance, but you must prepare for it.
In order to fully appreciate this promise of expansion, let me share with you some of the attributes of God, using three key points: His capacity, ability and willingness. If you fully grasp these, it will inform your posture in order to receive what He has in store for you.
Obviously, I do not have the actual words to describe God, what I am about to discuss here is just a feeble attempt to do so. Here they are:
• His Capacity: Psalm 24: 1 reads: ‘The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein’. Everything belongs to God. ‘The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all its fullness, You have founded them’ (Psalm 89:1). If indeed the entire universe belongs to God, then our disposition when approaching Him cannot be any less than His capabilities. The physical nature around us could give us a minute glimpse of the nature of the invisible God who created all that we see. Here are a few examples: Here are a couple of precious stones in our environment today: Amethyst, Beryl. Carbuncle, Chrysolite, Coral, Crystal, Diamond, Emerald, Jasper, Onyx, Sardonyx, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, Sardonyx and Topaz. There are also various minerals – silver, gold, aluminum and copper, just to mention a few and of course oil.
Taking this a bit further, scientists tell us that there are 170 billion galaxies in the entire observable universe. The closest galaxy is called the ’Omega centauri’. It is 15, 800 light years away. A light year is just under 9.5 trillion kilometres (or 6 trillion miles). The farthest galaxy is 13 billion light years away from us. The Milky Way is only 100,000 light years in diameter. The closest star to our planet is 39 trillion kilometres away. All we have discovered to date is nothing compared to what has not been discovered. I have gone this length to show you that the one who promised expansion has what it takes. Our God is unlimited! If so, then you cannot afford to approach God with a ‘teaspoon’ measure of faith.
• His Ability: Ephesians 3:20 says: 'God can do anything, you know — far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us' (Message). Here are some of the things that He has done: He spoke the universe into existence, He created the seas and all within it, He created the birds in the air in their vast arrays, He created the animals according to their kind, He creates trees and plants, the barren gave birth, He raised the dead, He parted the red sea, Jordan fled at His presence, He upheld the universe by His word. His ability is unlimited (Isaiah 40:12-16). Verse 26 reads: Look at the night skies: Who do you think made all this? Who marches this army of stars out each night, counts them off, calls each by name — so magnificent! so powerful! — and never overlooks a single one?
•His Willingness: You are the object of His love and so there is nothing God will not freely give to you. He is willing to bless you. Romans 8:32 reads: If God didn't hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn't gladly and freely do for us? (Message)
As we launch out into a year of enlargement; as we step out into great boundaries of achievement, as we expand to the right and to the left, as we position ourselves to receive all that God has in store for us; the key thing is to recognise that, God is not limited in His capacity to give, He’s not limited in His ability to fulfil His promises, and He’s absolutely willing to give you all He has ordained for you. He wants to give you everything that He has promised you. However, are you willing to believe Him for all He has in store for you?
