Scripture Reading: Isaiah 45:1-3 (NKJV)
29th January - 4th February, 2018
'Thus says the Lord to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held— to subdue nations before him and loose the armour of kings, to open before him the double doors, so that the gates will not be shut: ‘I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel…’
Prophetic words in Scripture often have a minimum of two applications. First, there is the immediate application of the text to the original recipient. Second, there is the future application of the text, which is often relevant for future generations. Our Scripture reading is concerning Cyrus, who was described as God's anointed. Today, those who believe in Jesus are God's anointed, so God’s assurances to Cyrus apply to us.
These days, many believers do not seem to understand that they are anointed, filled with the power of God, and cannot be harmed by evil because Jesus is in us. This ignorance of the anointing is an identity crisis. When believers do not know who they are in Christ, they may tolerate unfavourable circumstances, which God has already given them the authority to control through the name of Jesus (Matthew 18: 18, Luke 10: 19).
Verse 1 of our Scripture reading says God takes us by the right hand, and speaks of assured victories. The reference to the “right hand” in different parts of the Bible signifies strength for battle, economic prowess, favour, prominence, etc. When God holds your right hand, this means that He fights for you, helps you, defends you, and does what no man can do for you. When God holds your right hand, you see impossibilities become possible. In 2018, there is no need to be afraid, because God holds us by our right hands!
Verse 2 of our reading assures us that God goes before us and makes crooked paths straight. There are places in various cities that one cannot/ should not go to without a security guide. In our everyday lives, we can trust God because He makes our crooked paths straight, and He is always with us to guide us (Isaiah 58: 11, Isaiah 30: 21). God breaks barriers, whether of brass or of iron. We are unstoppable, because He clears the way before us. As Paul says, despite all our challenges, we are more than conquerors because of the love that God has for us (Romans 8: 37).
In verse 3, God emphatically says He will bless His anointed with “treasures of darkness” and “hidden riches in secret places”. God will give us ideas and reveal things to us that others do not know. As we use these ideas, He then causes us to be promoted and influential for His glory.
God’s blessings can bring double promotion and position us to exercise influence…!

Today, I receive Your blessings that enable me to be influential for Your glory, and I receive every promise that You have made concerning me. I say “Amen” to the glory of God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
